There are a lot of things that can affect the quality of your sleep. Each one can mean that you wake up feeling less rested in the morning. Instead, you will feel tired and like you haven’t slept properly. Here are three things that make an impact on your sleep and how you can try to fix them.
How You Are Feeling
How you are feeling has a massive impact on the quality of your sleep. If you are feeling anxious, then you are less likely to get a good night’s rest. If you notice that you are feeling anxious before going to bed, then you can take steps to try and alleviate that anxiety. Perhaps you know that you have an important meeting tomorrow or an interview, and you are feeling anxious about its outcome? If it is something like this, then you need to feel prepared, and once you feel like you can’t do anymore, then you need to find a way to let go and try to de-stress. There are plenty of methods and ways that you can try to relax and de-stress before bed, and each one is suited to a different person or different kind of stress and anxiety.
Your Bed
Your bed itself could be the reason why you are not sleeping well. If it is creaky, then whenever someone moves in the night the noise might disturb you and break your sleep. If this is the case, then you might need to get a new bed frame or mattress. Consider the possibility of getting a split king bed. Most people tend to wonder what is a split king mattress. You should replace your mattress every seven years or so anyway, so it might be time to replace yours. Other things that can make an impact on the quality of your sleep are your pillows. The ones that you are currently using might have become uncomfortable or aren’t suited to how you want to lay in bed. You should get some new pillows regularly, and goose feather pillows are some of the softest around if that is the kind of pillow that you like. Alternatively, you might prefer a memory foam pillow that molds to your shape each night.
Light
Light can have a massive impact on the quality of your sleep. If you are using your phone, tablet or watching TV before going to bed, then the light produced by these devices causes your brain to slow the production of the hormone that makes you feel sleepy. This might be why you struggle to fall asleep each night. You should try to not use these kinds of devices before bed. Instead, you could try reading a book, listening to the radio or playing a card game. Each of these will remove the device light and should mean that you fall asleep far easier. However, light from outside your room could also be having an impact. If the streetlight is shining through your curtains, then you might need to get some thicker curtains to block out the light, and this should improve your sleep as well.
