Are you bored of your usual snacks or looking for something easy to make on the go?

Here are some perfect snacks for baking as a family, or quickly whip up when you’re short on time.

With the pandemic, many families have spent more time in the kitchen, whether it was a new indoor family activity or an improvised home economics class.

As things start to get back to normal, why not keep up this family activity and get creative? There are so many different treats, sweet and savory, that you can experiment with, for the whole family to enjoy. Home baking is not only a great way to eat healthier, but is also a great way for families to spend time together!

Below is a mix of nutritious treats that can easily be adapted to suit any dietary requirements.

So whether you are looking for some quick treats to put together for a Saturday afternoon, pack travel snacks or make lunch boxes, there’s something for everyone.

Fruit and veg sticks with peanut butter

The classic combo of apple slices and peanut butter is both nutritious and delicious. But why stop there? You can add pretty much anything to peanut butter, including celery sticks and banana slices.

Alternatively, you can make it even more exciting by cutting large slices of apples, spreading peanut butter and jelly (as much as you wish) onto the slice, and then adding a slice to make a sandwich full of flavors and textures.

A quick snack you can put together, or you can get the kids in the kitchen and get the cookie cutters out to make some fun sandwich shapes!

Roasted vegetable chips

Potato chips are undeniably yummy, especially when they’re homemade! But why stop there? There are a plethora of different vegetables that you can use to bake, just like potatoes, to make a colorful and nutritious snack! You can pick pretty much any vegetable or legume, or even better, get your children to pick their favorite ones.

Wash them, slice them up nice and small, drizzle with olive oil and bake on high heat for 10-20 minutes and voila! The perfect snack for when you’re on the go or find yourself peckish in the afternoon!

You can make this more exciting by playing with different herbs and spices to mix up the flavorings. If you’re stuck with what vegetables to try, why not start with kate, spinach, zucchini, or chickpeas.

Breakfast cookies and muffins

Cookies and muffins for breakfast? You heard right.

Have fun in the kitchen with your family baking some delicious breakfast cookies that are perfect for those always on the go, or when you can start traveling again and want to hit the road nice and early!

Simply get your favorite cookie or muffin recipe, and rather than use butter, sugar, and chocolate chips, swap these for honey, fruits, nuts, seeds, coconut, nutmeg and so much more!

Get the whole family involved by letting them pick and add in their favorite substitutions.

Chocolate coated…. Anything

You can pretty much add chocolate to anything and it instantly turns into a delicious treat. Get the whole family to pick their favorite snacks and even create a fondue evening with melted chocolate.

There are many classic and delicious recipes to try, from the chocolate-covered cherries recipe at The Salted Pepper or trail mix clusters which mix up all party favorites such as pretzels, marshmallows, and chocolate chips with some nuts and seeds.

When it comes to making delicious and nutritious snacks that the whole family can enjoy, the choices are endless when you get creative and think outside the box.
