One of the biggest shocks for many new moms is that they still look pregnant for a few weeks after giving birth. After months of wearing maternity clothes, they just want to wear some more normal. They usually find that their favorite jeans are still too tight, and often have to revert back to the huge ones they wore while waiting for the baby to arrive. With everything else changing, this can get a bit disheartening, but there are ways you can still look good until your body has got back to normal.

Be Comfortable

It is very important that you feel comfortable after the baby has been born, no matter what you are wearing. Starting with underwear specially designed for this time, which are reviewed in detail at Innerparents. You need all your personal bits to feel reasonably good, or what you are wearing on top will not make much difference.

For top wear, do not be afraid to use some of your maternity wear. You can make it look stylish by teaming a maternity skirt with a different top and maybe adding some accessories that you did not wear while you were pregnant.

Stretchy Clothing

If you do not have any maternity clothes you want to wear again, opt for stretchy clothing that will give where it needs to. Instead of buying skirts and trousers with a fixed waistband and zip, purchases ones that have an elastic waist, as these will be much comfier to start with and can look very trendy too. Leggings are also a good option, as you can team them with practically anything to make you feel good about the way you look.

Look After Your Boobs

Regardless of whether you have decided to breastfeed or not, you are going to have a couple of weeks at least where your breasts are tender and very leaky. Forget your pre-pregnancy bra, as that will not fit for quite a while. If you are breastfeeding, invest in bras that are suitable for this purpose, and if you are not you still need ones with good support.

Many doctors advocate sleeping in a bra for the first few weeks. You can buy bras meant for sleeping in so that they do not cause you any discomfort while getting what will be very precious rest.

Have Some Patience

As many new moms have discovered, your body will not be the same as it was before you were pregnant. You may have gained some weight and be a bigger dress size, or it could just be that you have a larger stomach than before. It is estimated that it takes about 10 weeks for your body to get to anything like normal. By then, your baby should be sleeping more at night and you should be feeling more rested. Now is the time to consider treating yourself to something new to wear. You do not have to spend a fortune. Just a new top or skirt to wear with the clothes you already have will make you feel a whole lot better.
