For some, packing is the worst bit about travel. It can be tedious, time-consuming, and even with lists of the essentials, we may forget something. To help, have a look at the following tips:
Make The Effort To Make Lists
Yes, it is still possible to miss something off your lists, however, this is your best chance at not missing those essentials. Make a list of everything you need including basics and extras such as Leather phone cases, tablets, and face masks. Try to plan your outfits on a day-to-day basis, as this will help you to create lists of all the clothing items you might need. You should also consider checking the weather forecast as this can assist you with items such as a coat, umbrella, hat, gloves, and scarves. Try to limit the number of shoes you take to one comfy pair, a pair of flip flops for showering or pool use, and comfy pair for walking all day.
Learn About Your Destination
Once you know the basics, you can start to alter your clothing choices and must-need items from your learning about your destination. Are you going to be somewhere hot/cold? Are you going to have use of a pool at your hotel? What are the streets like? Will you need to have trainers for the daytime? What activities are on offer? There is no point in packing items that are just going to stay in your case. Learning about your destination enables you to minimize unnecessary items being taken.
Think Carefully About Essentials
There is a real grey area when it comes to essentials. Some may consider a book an essential, others may consider it as an optional extra. Do you need to work while you are away? If so can you check your email on your phone or is your laptop an essential item?
For this, you need to think about the reasons you are vacationing. If you are going to get away from work, taking your laptop isn’t the best idea. If you are going to reconnect with your partner, taking a book may get in the way. These are the type of things that could take you away from what your vacation is there for.
Your Toiletries
If you’re staying in a hotel and not a campsite or self-catering facility, you may get away with taking too many toiletries. They usually have them already. But, if you are going self-catering, renting a room, or camping, you will need to make sure you take everything you need to stay clean. Everyone has their essentials routine. When you vacation it’s important to remember you can’t possibly take all your usual items with you. Think about what you need as a minimum for your self-care. If you are short on space, think about purchasing some items such as soap and shampoo in your destination rather than traveling with it. This can help to reduce the amount of space used in your cases as well as minimize the impact on the weight of your bag.
Laundry Is Always An Option
If you don’t want to lug around more than one case, remember you can always downsize and use one bag instead of two. You can also use fewer bags as a family and make it easier to look after the kids instead of the cases. You can easily do this by reducing the number of clothes you take.
One of the simplest and best ways to downsize your luggage is to plan to wash your clothes instead of bringing more. Rewearing outfits, once they have been cleaned and washed, is a brilliant way to reduce the space used in your bag, however, you do need to make sure you have somewhere to wash them first.
Many hotels with offer a laundry service, or there may be a washer dryer in the self-catering facility you are hiring. You may even be able to find a local laundrette nearby. Have a look online before you travel and see if this is an option for you.
These are five great ways to ensure you are packing well for your next trip away.
