How to Properly Clean the Exterior of Your Home

The upkeep of your home is obviously very important to most homeowners, but lots of people don’t know how to properly maintain the exterior to the same standards of the interior. If you’re not sure where to start but you know your home’s exterior needs to be kept in better shape, you’re in the right place. We’re going to talk about the steps to take to properly clean your exterior.

Decide How Much You’re Going to Take Care of Alone

Deciding how much of this whole home cleaning process you want to take on alone is the first thing to do. Some people prefer to outsource the work while others prefer to do it all by themselves. The right balance is probably somewhere in the middle. After all, some of the work will involve working at heights and you might want to let a professional take care of that stuff. Alternatively, you could consider purchasing a ladder platform with stairs to do a certain amount of work that involves manageable heights yourself.

Use a Window Cleaning Solution

Don’t assume that you can just clean your windows with a spray of water. It’s not as simple as that and it won’t be enough to properly clean them. In fact, you might end up making them look even worse if you’re not careful. That’s why you should use a simple chemical-free cleaning solution, including things like soap and white vinegar to remove dirt and grime.

Use a Pressure Washer for Stubborn Dirt

If there’s dirt that’s been on the side of the home or on the paving stones for a long time and it’s pretty stubborn, you’ll probably want to make use of a pressure washer. There are pressure washing services you can make use of or you can buy one of your own if you think you’re going to use it a lot. They make removing difficult dirt and stains much easier, so they are useful.

Soft Wash the Roof Tiles

You don’t want to use a pressure washer on the roof of your home. Roof tiles can be damaged and dislodged pretty easily, and if you take that approach, you might cause serious and lasting damage to the roof. So instead you should soft wash the roof tiles and remove any moss or algae that might be starting to grow on the tiles of the roof.

Clear Out the Gutters

Finally, you should make sure that you pay attention to the gutters of the home too. It’s easy for these to get blocked up with leaves and debris, and that can then result in water flow issues and problems with standing water. You obviously don’t want to be dealing with any of that. So clear them out at least a few times per year.

As you can see, there are plenty of things you can work on if you’re going to properly clean the exterior of your home. There are lots of problems that can arise if you don’t take the time to clean your home well on a regular basis, so don’t overlook any of the issues above.
