How To Decide Which Room To Update First In Your Home

When it comes to updating your property, it can be hard to decide where to start. Some rooms may need a touch-up, whereas others may need a complete overhaul. It may be that your budget allows for a couple of rooms, or you can do the whole house. Below are things to consider when deciding which room to update first in your property.

Budget

Your budget is a big deciding factor when it comes to updating your property. Some rooms will be bigger than others but only need a touch-up, whilst others may be smaller but need a lot of doing. Deciding on your budget will help you choose which room to start with. Our advice is to go for the room that will make the biggest difference to your home. Some changes may be small but cost a lot so leave these until last. It might be that you can do some of the things yourself to save money. If any of it requires water work, make sure you turn off the plumbing first to avoid any water damage.

How Long The Changes Will Take

Depending on the changes you require in each room, it could mean that the room is out of action for a certain time period. For example, if you need a new kitchen put in, you won’t be able to use the kitchen until it is complete. At the time of you wanting to make these changes, it may not be practical, meaning you opt to make changes to a different room. Most cosmetic amendments can be done fairly quickly and by yourself, if you feel confident to do so.

Items In Stock

When making changes to your property, do you have a certain requirement in mind? Is this requirement custom-built or will it be readily in stock? If it needs to be built for you, it may take time for it to be ready meaning you can make a start in a different room. If you are installing anything smart device-related, like smart bulbs or a smart toilet seat, it’s always worth checking the stock on these as they can be very popular.

Can You Do It Yourself Or Require Someone To Come In For You?

As mentioned above, some rooms may just need a simple touch up that you can do yourself or a rearrangement. Maybe you need a new lick of paint on the walls, or some paintings need to be hung up. It could be that you are replacing the bulbs or switching the light sockets. All of these jobs can be simple to do and don’t require any help. If you do need help, be sure to factor in the time it will take to hire and decide on the tradesmen you want to carry out for the job. Bigger jobs like deciding on new flooring tend to require more decision making, making them slower to complete.

Overall, there are many things to consider when updating your property. Budget tends to be the most important consideration as nothing comes free, unfortunately.
