PC gaming is a great hobby and MMOs are a great genre of game. Listed below are what I consider to be the essential PC MMO games everyone should play.
World of Warcraft
I have been playing this game since the day it released back in November 2004. Here it is almost 10 years later and I STILL find myself going back. I have always loved the lore. I have my favorite characters. Most people play to be the best, “the elite”. I play for the storyline. I have been there for every expansion release and even had the honor to test out 3 expansions: Cataclysm, Mists of Pandaria and the soon to be released expansion, Warlords of Draenor. They even give you the option to try it out for free. I am a little peeved that after all this time they still have their sub price at $14.99. I kinda figured it would be cut in half by now but as long as you get your gaming time in, it’s worth it.
Rift
Rift… at first, I despised it because it was supposed to be THE game that would come along and kill World of Warcraft off. Did it happen? Nope. I was able to play this for free and then surprisingly won it for free along with a 60 day free subscription… right before they made it completely free to play. It’s different. It was something I had to get used to considering WoW was all I ever played. The fact that it was different is what sucked me in and had me playing for awhile. I am seriously considering going back and seeing what is new.
Neverwinter
I remember being so excited when word got out about this game. I was invited to the BETA for this. So was my husband. We both ran around exploring and enjoyed it because it was different. It’s free to play which is a plus.

October 10, 2014 at 11:59 amI have tried Rift and World of Warcraft. WoW is super popular but I was not a huge fan of their graphics after playing Everquest 2 since it's launch in 2004. The graphics on EQ2 is far superior to WoW. My husband and I run a raiding guild on EQ2 on the Antonia Bayle server.
This is a great list as far as popularity, thanks for sharing 🙂

October 10, 2014 at 12:00 pmI agree as far as the graphics go with WoW. I played the original Warcraft games which is why I think I keep getting sucked back into WoW.
I think I may have to go back to EQ2 sometime. I really enjoyed it and should have put it on this list. Oops. 😛
