Get A Guard Dog

Having a dog is great for the family, but it’s also good from a security point of view. A well-trained guard dog will deter any potential burglars and alert you if anybody is approaching the house. Dogs are also great for protecting any animals that you have on the homestead. If you want to earn money from your homestead by keeping livestock, you need to be aware of potential predators. A guard dog can help to protect your livestock by chasing away any predators and when a predator can smell that there is a dog in the area, they are likely to stay away.

Install An Alarm System

A guard dog is a good burglar deterrent already, but if you have a large homestead that needs to be protected, you should consider installing an alarm system as well. A farm and rural surveillance camera can give you a full 360-degree view of all of the fields and the land surrounding the house. This gives you full protection from burglars and it also means that you can watch over your livestock remotely which makes life a lot easier for you.

Add Some Fencing

Stopping people from accessing your land in the first place is one of the easiest ways to stay safe. Simple fencing is not expensive to build but it makes a big difference, so if you don’t already have some, you should install some. You can get some great gates with an automatic opener, so when you pull up in your car, you press a button and the gate opens to let you in. You can also add a keypad and intercom system so when you have visitors, you can control who comes onto the property.

Get Some Walkie-Talkies

When you are working around the homestead, there are dangers that you need to be aware of, especially when handling heavy machinery. Ideally, you should avoid working alone so if you have an accident, there is always somebody there to call for help. However, when you have a lot of family responsibilities to manage alongside your homestead, there are times when you will need to go and work on projects alone. If this is the case, you should get some walkie-talkies and keep them on at all times. That way, you can call for help if you have an accident or see any intruders on your land.

Take these simple precautions and you can make sure that you and your family are always safe on your homestead.
