There is nothing more frustrating than spending half the night tossing and turning, unable to get that blessed sleep that your body and mind need to function properly. There are numerous reasons why you can’t seem to drift off, but in this article, we are just going to run through a few of the most common ones. Perhaps you will identify one which you could remedy so you are able to finally drift off.

The Late Cup of Coffee

Though coffee can be a lifesaver when you are trying to get out of bed in the morning, drinking it too late in the day can spell disaster for your sleeping pattern. So, if you are the kind of person who drinks coffee or other caffeinated drinks late in the day, now is the time to try cutting them out. Not only is caffeine likely to prevent you from getting to sleep, it also increases the chances of you getting disturbed in the middle of the night.

You’re in Pain

If you are experiencing any kind of pain, this is highly likely to make it hard to get comfortable and fall asleep. A couple of the most common types of pain include headaches and back discomfort. Some solutions which have been shown to be effective include taking a warm bath before bed, sleeping with a heating pad or taking some over-the-counter painkillers. Consult with your doctor if you are still having issues.

Bad Sleeping Environment

Perhaps your mattress isn’t providing you with enough support and comfort. In which case, check out www.bestmattress-brand.org for a comparison of different options out there. Maybe the room isn’t dark enough, so you could invest in some blackout blinds. Otherwise, your bedroom may not be the right temperature, so try getting some kind of device that helps to control this factor like a heater or air conditioner.

If you are concerned about that big meeting that you have coming up tomorrow or even an event that happened years ago, it can be very difficult to quiet your mind so you can drift off. There are numerous methods which people find effective at reigning in and controlling their stress such as yoga, meditation, or simply reading a book. Some evening exercise may also help to leave you exhausted and ready to get the sleep you desire.

Falling Asleep with Your Phone

So many of us are attached to our smartphones these days, but this is not always a good thing for several reasons. Checking your phone has been linked to increased anxiety levels and the production of the stress hormone cortisol. Try cleansing your sleeping environment of all technology as it can be very disruptive. You can also live without these devices for a few hours of the day – you may even find it liberating!

These are just a few of the things which may be keeping you up at night, so try taking steps to control these factors to see how this helps you out.
