Know Your Camera

You need to know how to navigate through the menus and you also need to know the ins and outs of the trip you are taking. Even experienced photographers really should spend time trying to get to know their camera and they should do so before leaving for the trip. You have to remember that every brand and model of camera will all have slight differences, and if you use a new setup then you may find this somewhat confusing. At the minimum, you should try and learn where the essential camera settings are. This can include the shutter speed, the white balance, and even the ISO. A good composition will make or even break your shot. If you break up your frame into nine squares, you need to place the point of interest at the intersection of these lines. If you do this as opposed to centering it then you will soon find that it is easier than ever for you to get the best result out of your photos.

You have to make sure that you do your homework, and you also need to work out which locations you want to visit. Start by looking for some inspiration and also take on board what other photographers have to say as well. Then, go to Google Maps in an aerial view to find some lesser-known spots, if you believe that they have potential. It is recommended that you write down a list of general areas and then specific areas that you have been scouting so that you know what to expect. It is crucial that you become familiar with the weather as well as the time the sun sets and rises. This will help you to prepare for everything and anything. Light will play a huge role when it comes to your photography so make sure that you are putting in the work to get the best positioning in regards to the sun at that time of day.
Travel Light
One of the main and most important things that you need to do when it comes to photography is travel light. Sometimes it can be tempting to pack every type of equipment you have. It’s better for you to take essentials. You are going to have your backpack on your shoulders for hours at a time, so you need to try and pack light if possible because if you don’t, then you may find that you end up struggling. You may even find that you can’t get your camera out fast enough, because you have so much stuff, so try and make the effort to avoid this if possible. Take only what you need, and you’ll soon find that things come together for you.
