Get Your Home Ready For Summer

Now that Spring is finally here, after a particularly bad winter it’s time to get the house and garden ready for the sociable season of summer.  In this post we’re going to look at a number of ways to prepare for summer.

SPRING CLEAN

Of course, it’s this time of year when we all start thinking about having a good sort out.  Indeed, the traditional Spring Clean is as integral to Spring as the Easter Bunny.

However, a spring clean shouldn’t be limited to cleaning, it’s a great time to consider upgrading certain home appliances such as water heaters or going in search of the best home generator. Essentially, it’s important to consider a spring clean as a holistic activity that focuses on the whole house and home life rather than simply giving things a dust over.

Here are three steps to implementing a spring clean:

  1. The first step is to declutter your home; meaning sorting through your items and working out what you no longer need.  What are you holding onto that no longer serves you? Go through your wardrobe and determine what clothes can be given away to charity, passed on, or are so well worn they are no longer a feasible option.  If like most people you struggle with getting rid of items that hold a particular sentimental value, accept this, and understand that you don’t need to get rid of these items – you just need to declutter your home.  There’s nothing stopping you putting them in an airtight bag and storing them in the loft. The point is to declutter your home so that you can get organized.
  2. The second step is all about getting organized and this isn’t restricted to material items, as this is a great time to go through paperwork and take care of things you’ve been putting off.
  3. The third step is to thoroughly clean your home.  You might want to consider getting in a professional company to undertake a deep clean (e.g. steam the carpets) or you might prefer to do it yourself and bask in the cathartic emotional release that comes with decluttering, organizing, and cleaning your home.

GARDEN OVERHAUL

It’s important to remember the garden as well, as this is just as important in terms of getting your home ready for summer.  Now is the best time to start tending to your garden, particularly in terms of planting flowers for the summer.

BUILDING WORK

This time of year is a great time to undertake building work, as with warmer weather plus lighter nights you’ll have a good shot at having everything in shape for the summer months.  Indeed, if you consider how many skips will appear on driveways up and down the country, you’ll see that you’re not the only one with the bright idea of getting renovations done at this time of year.  This can lead to higher prices due to the economics of supply and demand which mean it could be worth considering doing as much of it yourself on a DIY basis as possible in order to keep costs down.
