Do Your Part To Fight The Flu and Join ChristianaCare’s #NoFluCrew

Flu season is upon us. This year it’s more important than ever to get the flu vaccine. With COVID-19 and the flu circulating at the same time, it’s become a double threat in our community and across the nation. With that said, I am encouraging all of my readers who live in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland and the surrounding communities to make sure to join the #NoFluCrew by getting your flu shot this year.

I know some of you may have some questions, especially if this is your first year getting it. Some of those questions may be:

What exactly is the flu?

Influenza is a respiratory illness which means it affects your lungs. It’s a viral infection that can be deadly, especially in high-risk groups.

Why should I get it?

To keep yourself, your loved ones, and those around you safe. The flu spreads very easily. It’s also more likely to spread during the fall and winter seasons (October to March). Those who are high risk are also encouraged to get their flu vaccine this year.

How old do you have to be?

Everyone who is 6 months or older can get the flu vaccine.

Is it safe?

If you’re skeptical about the flu shot, don’t be. Flu shots are safe and more important than ever to prevent further sickness during the pandemic. I felt iffy before ever getting my first flu shot but it’s prevented me from getting sick with each passing year.

Believe it or not, it makes a bigger impact than you think in just one year alone:

  • 4.4 MILLION – fewer Flu illnesses
  • 2.3 MILLION – fewer Flu-related medical visits
  • 40% FEWER – fewer Flu-related hospitalizations
Where do I get the flu shot?

ChristianaCare has several locations throughout the area and also offers other resources on their website of where to go if you don’t have a location nearby.

How much does it cost?

It really depends on where you go. I know most places in our area offer it at a low cost or for absolutely free.

If you are still skeptical about the flu vaccine after reading this post, please consider reaching out to someone who works at ChristianaCare with your questions. Visit christianacare.org/flu or call 302-777-0643.
