So you have finally made your dream come true and moved to a country village. That is fine, but you will want to make your cottage or farmhouse really your own, you might want to customize the inside and outside. Your new house might already be full of character, but you want to make the most out of the layout, features, and design, so you can turn it into a home. Find some easy tips below.

Update Your Tiles

The first thing you might want to do after purchasing an old cottage or farmhouse is getting some rustic tiles for the floor and the walls. If you have a range cooker, you could use retro style small tiles. In your bathroom, you can go for a more modern look, and have larger tiles or wall coverings installed. The floor of your home should be matching the style of your house. You could also go for a wooden floor effect tile that makes your home look warmer and more inviting with natural colors.

Set a Colour Scheme

You should choose your standard country colors, as well as those that make the most out of the layout. If you have original wooden beams, paint them in the color of your choice and use them as a contrast to other, natural colors. Use dark green combined with pink for a shabby chic style, or shades of brown for a more natural look. Combine beige and dark brown for a classic style home.

Dress Your Windows

Soft furnishings are important in every home, but even more so if you have just bought a country house. Use rich drapes to decorate the windows, and frame the view. If you want to improve the look of your house from the outside, you could install S:CRAFT diy plantation shutters to control the light in every room individually.

Have a Herb Garden

To make the most out of your front garden, and match the romantic looks of your country home, you could have a lovely small herb garden under your front windows. Plant some rosemary, thyme, and lavender, so you can enjoy the scent all year round. Invest in stone planters for an easy maintenance vegetable garden, or plant some rose bushes.

Create a Vintage Kitchen and Bathroom

If you want to truly enjoy your home, you need to start with updating your kitchen and bathroom. Add some vintage luxury finishing, such as a freestanding bath, and a stylish oak cabinet. Add some natural oak finish to your kitchen surfaces, and use natural colors. Use hexagonal tiles to make your home look unique and tailor the style to your taste, so your new house feels like home.

Whether you are looking for a combination of classic and chic style or want to preserve the unique features of the country house you have just purchased, there are several details you need to take care of. Make sure that the exterior and interior of the home match perfectly, and you create a unique character your visitors can admire.
