3 Home Decor Mistakes You’ve Made At Least Once In Your Life

[Credit]

You may look at your home and think of yourself as something of a home decor expert. But, was it always this way? The chances are you’ve fallen victim to some of the most common home decor mistakes around. We’ve all made at least one in our lives (some of you may even make them now!). So, let’s take a look at these mistakes to see what we’re doing wrong and how to correct things:

Color clashes

I think we’re all guilty of having color clashes in our homes at some point! This usually happens when we’re not really thinking and just pick colors that we like. Then, a few years pass, and we realize how terrible everything looks. How on earth could you ever think those two colors went together? It was perhaps acceptable back in the day when you didn’t have the internet to call upon. Now, a quick Google search shows you which colors match and which ones clash. So, no excuses from here on out!

Short tablecloths

Did you know there’s actually a proper way to put tablecloths on a table? They’re supposed to be a specific length that lets them flow down the sides. Loads of people make the mistake of buying tablecloths that are simply too short. They barely fall down the edges of a table, making it look quite goofy. It’s such an easy mistake to make, and an even easier one to fix. All you have to do is learn how to measure for rectangle tablecloth – or square/circle, depending on the shape of your table. Here, you’ll get the right cut of fabric to ensure your kitchen or dining room table doesn’t look ridiculous.

Too much everything

This mistake is another one that you probably made when you were a bit younger. Modern home design trends are more about minimalism, but they weren’t always like that! It used to be common to fill your home will of as much stuff as possible. We’re talking ornaments on every surface, photos or artwork littering the walls, loads of furniture, etc. It was seen as a way of making a house a home. Now, it makes your house look like a home for hoarders! Can you imagine trying to sell a home with loads of clutter in it? You’d be lucky if you ever found a buyer for it. No, the current trend is to tone things back and not have too much of everything all over your house.

Honestly, I’m guilty of making all these mistakes at some point! Most of you are as well, even if you don’t want to admit it. There’s no shame in making these errors as long as you can fix them. I find that most mistakes are made when you move into a house for the first time. It’s your first experience owning and decorating a home, so you don’t know what to do. As time goes on, these mistakes fade away and you develop into the home decor expert you are today!
