Stay Calm

Count to ten. You were just involved in a car accident. Letting your nerves get the better of you could make the situation worse. Breathe deeply. It helps. Think of the ocean. Do whatever you possibly can to keep yourself calm. A level head will be needed for what lies ahead.

Check For Injuries

Be sure to check for injuries right away. The feeling of adrenaline after being involved in an accident can mask symptoms. If anyone is injured, make sure to call for an ambulance right away. Also, be sure to call a personal injury attorney Tampa.

Turn On Your Hazard Lights

This lets anyone behind you know there is an accident ahead. If you have them and feel it’s safe to do so, use orange cones, warning triangles or safety flares. Doing whatever you can to keep the situation from turning worse is a must.

Move Out Of Traffic

If the accident isn’t serious and there are no injuries, move your vehicle out of the way to a close but safe place.

Call 911

This is an absolute MUST DO. The police are required to come out to the scene, investigate what happened and write up an accident report. This also helps out the auto insurance companies.

Notify Your Agent

If you have an auto accident agent, be sure to notify them right away. They can help you sort through your options regardless of whether the accident was minor or serious.

Take Notes

Things can happen so quickly that it’s easy to forget even the smallest but most important of details. Jot down your recollection of the accident, including any damage to all cars involved. Also if you are able to, get the contact information of any witnesses.

Take Pictures

If you have a cell phone handy, make it a point to get pictures right away. Ideas of pictures would be damage to the vehicle and overall accident scene. Only do this though if it’s safe to do so.

Prevent Further Damage

Do whatever possible to prevent any further damage to your vehicle. Of course, keep the safety of all parties involved in mind here too.

Exchange Insurance Information

Write down the name of the other driver and any other insurance information you and the insurance company may need to file a claim. If the name on the auto registration and/or insurance policy is different from the name of the driver, establish the relationship and note it.

Stick With The Facts

Be polite. Be honest. A lot of people out there are known to be dishonest when it comes to insurance claims just to get their hands on some money. Should the other party be dishonest, this situation would be good to hire an auto accident attorney Tampa.

Stay Put

For your own sake, stay. Not only can leaving the scene of an accident get you in trouble with the law but it can also hurt your insurance claim should you have one. It may take forever (or seem that way), but don’t leave the scene of the accident until everything is taken care of. Better to be safe than sorry.

I hope these tips helped you out should you ever be involved in an accident. Whether you are the victim or the one at fault, these tips should be taken seriously.
